A Halloween Origins Class w/ Laura Shaw

Before Halloween there was Samhain, the old Gaelic festival that marked the end of the harvest and the start of winter. It was the night the old year died, and people believed the door between the living and the dead swung open. The ancient Greeks had their own version: once a month, they set a meal out at the crossroads for Hekate, keeper of the keys and goddess of every threshold you are afraid to cross.

This class stands at that crossroads. We will start with where Samhain comes from, what people did on this night before it became candy and costumes, and why the goddess of witches lives where three roads meet.

Then you will blend your own road opener oil with abre camino, the herb whose Spanish name means "open the road," and add a stone to help carry the work. Then you'll write what is blocking your way on a bay leaf and give it to the fire. Stuck job, stuck relationship, stuck anything. Most of us are standing at a closed gate we built ourselves.

You will leave with your oil, instructions for working with it through the dark Moon on November 9, and a road with fewer obstacles on it.

No experience needed.

She is Master and Teacher of Unlimited Body and Unlimited Breath, an Advanced Practitioner of Flower Essences, and a certified Western Herbalist. She studied Tarot, Hellenistic Astrology, Ho’oponopono (Huna shamanism), and earned a Master’s degree in Human Development from St. Mary’s University.
